I love your writing style. It was a great article, and I love that you said exactly how you feel. Forget the haters–there are, in general, too many people on the interweb who have an opinion about anything and everything and feel everyone needs to hear it. (They don’t.)
I like that you don’t do things because everyone expects it and you’re the sort of girl that goes with what’s right for you. I think you’re cool. The end.
love love love the style of your writing and this! i never thought i would get married… not because i didn’t have anyone but just because i figured “lovers for life” was more my style.. hey it worked for goldie hawn and her kurt russell and susan sarand– oh wait, they broke up didn’t they? my heart still doesn’t want to believe it.
okay seriousness aside– i am engaged since january and i’m annoyed at all the people who ask when the big date is.
so much stuff is going on… like us making a huge move across the state, me leaving behind home and dream job- struggling to find a new job… etc. that how can i possibly entertain you like every other bride-to-be and tell you the exact date or what we’ll be serving on the menu?
so i get your sweet article š even though i sounded cynical about my own life- the thing is, it’s MY life right? so when it happens, it’ll happen and though i may not be in a frou frou dress like most happy brides i’ll be just that– HAPPY.
so thank you for your article! š IT WAS SUCH A DELIGHT! i love your style and was SO HAPPY to see your name on a byline.
And as someone who has been in love with the same person since she was 12, and who is now a few years older than you, and who hasn’t been the least bit interested in marriage until very, very recently, I feel you. And one day, I just started to feel ready and it wasn’t on anyone else’s timeline. Enjoy every stage of the relationship, that’s what I say.
Love your story and your writing. I took the opposite approach, though I didn’t intend to. Got married young and we worked on becoming grown ups together (in our mid fifties and still trying to figure that part out). But what’s funny is that at the time, no one we knew was getting married, so we were the odd ones. Just follow your heart…(but just so you know, the grown up thing isn’t all that definitive).
