like a melody in my head
Here we go.
Back from the mountains. Pictures to come. The Adirondacks in the fall are beautiful and spooky, red trees and grey sunlight and somebody’s old-fashioned honeymoon, everything shut down for the winter. We wandered around an abandoned amusement park and went for long drives up windy mountain roads. We played Scrabble and had a fancy lobster dinner and saw Couples Retreat, which was (shocker) Not Very Good. They upgraded us to a fancy suite for no good reason except we were almost the only ones at the hotel. Would have given me the jimjams, had I been there by myself.
Instead, suffice it to say: vacation is nice.
And now: two weeks outside of Thanksgiving. Cookies to bake. New families to babysit. Menu to plan. Cards to design. Anne Tyler to read. Stock to simmer. Inkscape to decrypt. Stockings (or something like them) to knit.
Plus I need to get back on the Shred before the buttons on my jeans start flying off at random and kill someone.

i will follow where you lead
“She is a friend of my mind. She gather me, man. The pieces I am, she gather them and give them back to me in all the right order.” (Toni Morrison)
Philadelphia for the weekend to love on Rachel, who asked me if I wanted to sit next to her on the bus on our field trip to see Cats freshman year of high school, and has been letting me yap at her ever since. I haven’t seen her since March, and it’s the longest we’ve gone in ten years. Never again. That Rachel, she is a friend of my mind.
Back Monday, with pictures and a full heart.

Getaway
Oh, GUYS.
Look where Tom and I are going in November.
My family used to stay here every summer when I was a little girl, but I haven’t been since I was eight or nine.
To say I’m excited to experience this place as grownup would be an understatement.
I can’t wait to sip gimlets on the veranda like a giant Wasp.
Just lovely, darling.

Gone Again.
To the country for the long weekend. There’s a bunch of stuff lined up here, though, so keep an ear to the ground. See you next week, little darlin’.

Hey Miss American Girl
I have these girlfriends. We dig each other a lot.
When we are together, which is not often enough, we do a lot of eating.
And drinking.
And loving on each other.
I am because you are, chickens. You are all across the country, and you are safe right here with me.
(Photos gakked from M. That’s me in the sunglasses in every single picture. Sometimes I like to act famous.)
